Embellished Fabric Collage
23" X 36"
Tranquility #3 (Arborarium) - is third in the series of 5 Embellished Fabric Collage
interiors.
The foreground bedroom invites the viewer to look out the window into a
watercolor on paper of an arching arborarium where I once bicycled while in India.
The pillowcase, parts of the balcony, and curtains are suede, with paint for the
shadows. A piece of silk my husband gave me from a trip to Asia became the table
and the globe elements; organza is used for the covers on the candles as it allows
viewing through to the prior layers, much as transparent paint does. The piece took
over a month to complete.
Although the photo shows the overall embellished fabric collage looking like a
painting, texture and depth is much more interesting when the original is seen up
close. If you plan to visit the Las Vegas-Henderson, Nevada area, call to ask
where the studio originals can be viewed. (661) 343-1639. When first shown in
2005, this piece won third prize in the professional mixed media category in the
Kern County Fair California exhibits.
