California High School
                       12" X 18"   Watercolor
From the late 1980's to 2005  I was the school psychologist at Shafter High
School. In the early 2000's I was becoming known in the area for winning
prizes at the Kern County Fair for embellished fabric collages. Although rarely
did anybody buy those, as they were labor intensive and I charged more for
them. However I did start to be asked to do other works. I was commissioned
by two sisters to do Shafter High School for their mother's retirement present,
because they and she all worked there. This is the first picture I did of the
school. Since I wasn't happy enough with it, I did another and had them
choose the one they wanted. They chose the other one, and now I'm glad I did
this picture too, because it turned out to be my retirement picture of the school
too.  The ramp on the right was put in for one of the Special Education
students I tested, as he was wheelchair bound. I also used the ramp to drag in
my testing materials and papers each time I came.  The school was remodeled
quite a bit a few years after I completed this. Someday maybe my heirs will
donate it  to someone who works at Shafter High who remembers it when it
looked like this.
